Explanation
In "Clearance for checkmate" we saw how to move one piece out of the way for another piece to give checkmate on a subsequent move. In this level you move one piece out of the way, so a subsequent move by another piece is now a check that is or leads to checkmate.
Examples
White can win with 1.Rg3+, forcing the king to h5, and clearing the d1-h5 diagonal, so that 1...Kh5 2.Be2# comes with check and mate.
Sometimes the clearing move can be a sacrifice:
Black can win with the knight sacrifice 1...Ng3+!, opening and clearing the h-file, so that 2.hxg3 Qh6# is check and mate.
