Decoy into discovered check is a combination where a piece sacrifice forces an opponent's piece to a square where it can be attacked with a discovered check.

Examples

White can sacrifice the queen with 1.Qxg7+! Recapturing with 1...Kxg7 lures the king to g7, where it can be attacked with the discovered check 2.Nd5+. The knight attacks the queen on c7, and also discovers a check by the bishop on b2. After, for example 2...f6 3.Nxc7 Black regains the queen, and has won a bishop in the process (and also traps the rook on a8).

The decoy can also be on the piece attacked directly, as in the following example:

Bobby Fischer was 14 years old, and on his way to his first US championship, when he won this game with the queen sacrifice 1.Qxc1! If Black recaptures with 1...Qxc1+, the Queen is lured to c1, where it can be attacked with the discovered counter-check 2.Rf1+. After Black deals with the check, White can capture the queen, and has won a rook. In the game Black continued with Qh4 instead of recapturing, but was a rook down and soon resigned.
